New Jersey Nursing Requirements: What does it take to become a licensed nurse in NJ?

To become a licensed nurse in New Jersey, an applicant must graduate from an approved nursing school. You must also pass a nursing exam provided by the NJ nursing board. The New Jersey nursing board administers the test for a $200 examination fee to the exam is called the National Council Licensure Examination (NLCEX). The NLCEX, administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing provides examinations for two different type of nurses: registered nurses (RNs) and practical nurses (PNs). Success rate - approximately ninety percent of applicants pass the test the first time.

The program requires 1,500 "clock hours" (lecture, lab, and clinical hours), and takes around one or two years to finish, depending on a student’s schedule. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, and is affiliated with several health organizations such as American Health Works, Cardiology Associates, and Somerset Medical Center.

Dover Business College of Nursing

Dover Business College offers a practical nursing degree. Their graduates can benefit from the college's Career Services, which helps to place graduates in jobs immediately after graduation. The program, which is designed to be finished in 15 months, costs approximately $24,000, although financial aid can cover much of the cost. Students will receive clinical experience as well as classroom training from nursing professionals.
